Deese has always taken pride in his lawn and landscaping so it was no surprise when his neighbors began to take notice and ask if he would be interested in doing their landscaping. With four kids and his wife Tiesse battling cancer, the answer was an obvious yes.
This husband and wife duo own and operate their landscaping company together. Deese handles all of the manual labor and delivery of service, while Tiesse controls all functions necessary for success within the app including route optimization, accepting new job requests, and customer communication.
After providing outdoor services independently for a few years, Deese stumbled upon LawnGuru on Facebook.
He deliberated with Tiesse as to whether LawnGuru was a legitimate platform, and quickly decided to accept one job to find out for themselves. Being in control of backend operations, Tiesse was interested in simplifying invoices, improving route organization, minimizing customer acquisition costs and all the paperwork that goes into being an owner-operator.
The Pippins have been with LawnGuru since 2016, completed more than 1150 jobs using the app, and say they love the convenience.
Not having to invoice customers or track down outstanding payments are a few of the perks that come with being a LawnGuru Pro that these two appreciate most. Tiesse says, “It’s a relief to leave the backend simplified so we are able to take on more customers and help people outside of our neighborhood.” The app has allowed them to expand their service area improving their business intake roughly 75%.
Beautifying a yard is one of Deese’s favorite elements about his career so whether it’s mulching or planting, his most valued moments are being able to create a yard with impeccable curb appeal.
The Pippins have a firm belief in keeping customers happy and satisfied so they’re driven to ensure their lawns stay in top shape all season while knowing customers personally on a first name basis.
One of the biggest pet peeves that the Pippins are faced with is customers leaving toys in the yard. As landscapers, though we do love spending time to make a yard well kempt, we’re here to cut not clean, so it’s helpful when a property is picked up before provider arrival.
Deese and Tiesse report that working with family has made their business one that willingly goes a step further.
Whether it’s lending a hand setting up patio furniture, stringing Christmas lights, or escorting elderly customers safely to their vehicles during slippery weather conditions, these events represent the couples commitment to their customers.
In their down time which isn’t as frequent as they’d prefer, Deese and Tiesse like to go to dinner with their family, relax at the movie theatre, or head downtown to take in the many sights found near the Detroit River. We’re proud to have Deese & Tiesse representing LawnGuru now and in the future.
